Our Hosting Services and Products

As you might suspect, a sub domain is a secondary domain name. An example is: subdomain.homeatlastfarms.net. Without getting into the deep stuff, the network reads a domain name from right to left. You and I read it from left to right, but computers are rather backward critters. That’s why they’re called “smart dirt”. Take the sample url: sub.domain.com. The “.com” is called a Top Level Domain or TLD. Some other tld’s are: .net, .org, .edu, and .us. The “.domain” is called the “Second Level Domain”. The left most word is the host name. It can be www or sub or almost anything. You can have up to 127 levels, but more than four are very rare. Feel free to take a look at Marshal Brain’s How Stuff Works to learn more.

There are several features that are common to both plans. They both have email addresses. I’ll create the pages for you, using images you provide. Our graphics designer, Leanne, will create one logo designed to your specifications. I expect you to write all the text and email it to me. I’ll gladly help with editing, but I’m not much of an author.

Please be aware that these plans are not for everyone. They are aimed at the rural agricultural interests that might not otherwise have a web presence. They are primarily for my neighbors, but one of my customers lives in British Columbia, Canada.

Our entry level offering is the sub-domain hosting plan. I’ll create a page or two for you (sample page). Don’t let that Latin looking writing fool you, I’ll write English for your pages. You will have a url that will look something like:

www.AndersonFamily.FarmHome.us

or perhaps

WilmethBaptistChurch.HomeAtLastFarms.net.

More domains will be available, but for now, the domains are:

  • homeatlastfarms.com
  • homeatlastfarms.net
  • farmhome.us

You’ll be able to display just about anything you’d like on YOUR page. Your choices include, but certainly aren’t limited to; pictures, colors, columns, fonts and graphics. You supply all the source files and I’ll whip them into your pages. This plan is appropriate for a business brochure site or a keep-in-touch with family site.

Fees For Sub Domain Hosting
One Time Setup Fee: $25.00 Monthly:
$6.99
Annual:
$72.00

Our Domain Hosting plan has a few more features. I’ll register a complete domain for you or you can use a domain you’ve already registered. (Domain statistics from Whois). I’ll create up to 3 pages for you. You can have up to 10 email names. For example Ralph@YourDomain.com and OfficeStaff@YourDomain.com would be two email accounts.

You need to supply the source digital files except for common images. If you’re a GoodYear or Michelin tire dealer, you’re allowed to use their logo and I can find that. Same with Master Card, Visa, and American Express. I have a digital camera, but there will be a mileage charge if I have to drive to your ranch to take pictures of your favorite cow, horse or goat. You’ll also need to answer emails when I ask questions. I also expect you write the “about me” information.

You’ll notice that I haven’t used the word “unlimited”. There is no such thing in the computer world as “unlimited storage and bandwidth” even though some hosts SAY they offer “unlimited” resources. There won’t be “unlimited” resources until you can buy an “unlimited” hard disk for your PC. If you’re a small business owner, here are some of my thoughts on web site ownership.
